Domestic workers tied up in Strubenvale

Robbers use ruse on domestic worker to enter premises.

A house robbery took place in Strubenvale last Thursday at 11.50am.

One of the two domestic workers on the premises were inside the house at the time and the other was outside.

The domestic worker answered the intercom when it rang and the person at the gate told her they were sent by the owner to fix the TV in the bedroom.

Capt Johannes Ramphora, spokesperson for the Springs police says the domestic worker told him she was not informed about the maintenance and she was requested to go to the gate to talk to them.

“She went outside and opened the gate slightly to talk to them.

“One of the suspects pretended he was on a phone call to the owner and told the domestic worker the owner will phone her.”

She went back inside to retrieve her cell phone, told the suspects the owner has not phoned her and returned to the house.

The suspects entered the yard and followed her, grabbed her, ordered her to keep quiet and pushed her into the main bedroom.

“They tied her hands and when she tried calling out to the worker outside, she was beaten and kept quiet after that,” says Ramphora.

While this was in progress, the other worker left the premises to get lunch but saw a vehicle parked outside.

He inquired as to the reason and the driver allegedly told him they were waiting for the owner.

When the worker wanted to phone the owner, he was grabbed and pushed into the bedroom where the domestic worker was lying.

After a while, one of the workers noticed the suspects have left the scene and immediately stood up to contact the owner.

A case of house robbery was opened at the Springs Police Station.
