Balaclava-clad men target house with only women

A woman woke to the sight of her daughter surrounded by four suspects wearing balaclavas during a house robbery in Bakerton last week.

Capt Johannes Ramphora, spokesperson of the Springs police, says the woman was asleep in her room when she was awoken by a noise.

“She got up and saw her daughter with four suspects, one of whom approached her with a crowbar and demanded money,” he says.

One of the suspects allegedly instructed the woman to lie down and covered her with a duvet.

The suspects searched the room and took cellphones and cash.

Another suspect, who was armed with a firearm, took the daughter to her room where he took two more cellphones as well as four pairs of tekkies.

“The complainant’s granddaughter heard the noise and phoned her uncle, telling him there were people in the house and hung up the phone,” says Ramphora.

One suspect went to her room and asked for her phone and if she called anyone, to which she said no.

“The uncle arrived at the house and the suspects fled the scene.”

They allegedly gained entry by cutting the barbed wire fence and forced a burglar door and wooden door open.

A case of house robbery was opened at the Springs Police Station.
