Mercyland International Christian Centre needs your help making re-usable nappies

Local church hopes to provide some relief to old age homes and orphanages.

Mercyland International Christian Centre is making washable nappies for the community.

The local church is always looking for ways to get involved in the community and this year they have decided to make these nappies as they can get very expensive.

“People in the old age homes also use disposable nappies and that can get very expensive, very quickly.

“By using these washable nappies, they can save quite a bit of money,” says Oyinloluwa Eseh, a pastor from Mercyland International Christian Centre.

The church is asking the public to donate their old toweling robes, towels and cotton t-shirts.

The absorbent material is then placed inside the nappies which are covered with waterproof material.

The project is in partnership with two other churches from Springs and they hope to donate the nappies to Far East Rand Hospital, old age homes in Spring and KwaThema and pregnant women who are destitute.

Those who do not have materials to donate but have sewing skills or a sewing machine can help the church make the nappies as they need helpers to cut the pattern for the nappies and put them together.

Alternatively, you can donate money to the project as they will then buy the material they need.

“We need as much help as we can get so we can reach as many people as possible,” says Eseh.

Those who wish to donate or need more information can contact Eseh on 078 051 9383.
