New vispol commander appointed

KwaThema Police Station has a new Visible Policing (Vispol) commander, Lieutenant Colonel Tebogo Mokoena.

KwaThema police spokesperson, Captain Thabo Sibuyi, says Mokoena joined the force on July 1, 1991, and worked in public order policing in Unit 19 in Pretoria.

“He moved to the public order policing in Unit Six in Dunnottar and later transferred to Katlehong’s Unit 25.

“He later joined the Nuffield Unit in Daggafontein as a captain.

“From 2006 he worked at Thokoza SAPS as an operational commander and was promoted to the shift commander in 2013.

“In 2014 he moved to KwaThema where he worked as a relief commander. He was promoted to Vispol commander in 2017,” he says.

Mokoena says one of his main responsibilities is to motivate the police to carry out their responsibilities with diligence.

“They must report on time for duty and help fight crime on the streets.

“All the officers who need my help are free to knock on my door as it is always open,” he says.

KwaThema station commander, Mariketla Malapane, says Mokoena has been overseeing the unit for three years.

“I am happy that someone with his experience and hard work has been appointed to oversee the component on a permanent basis.

“I am calling on the police and community to help him in fighting crime and keeping the streets of KwaThema safe.

“We are calling on residents to report any illegal activities in the community,” she says.
