“It’s very dark at night,” says resident Annelie de Jager.

“We worry about the children who walk past here every day.

“Although they have not fiddled with the lights, we worry that something could happen to them.”

The businesses, school and residents on the street have not reported a spike in crime levels.

The residents claim they have reported the problem numerous times to no avail.

“We just don’t know what to do any more,” says Tommie de Jager.

“It’s not fair because we pay our rates and taxes.”

When asked about the street lights, Themba Gadebe, spokesperson for the Ekurhuleni metro, says, “Officials are working overtime attending to the street lights in the area.

“A contractor has also been appointed to support the city with repairs in the Springs area.”
