Suspects arrested after hijacking woman and robbing a man

A hijacking took place in Welgedacht at around 9pm on January 6.

A couple was allegedly parked in front of their residence and was busy on a laptop when the woman heard a knock on her window.

Capt Johannes Ramphora, spokesperson for the Springs police, says the woman was forced out of the car by a man armed with a gun.

The man hit the woman with an open hand and ordered her to get into the boot of the car.

“She refused and other suspects arrived on the scene and strangled the woman before driving off with the car,” says Ramphora.

The woman’s boyfriend, who ran off to get help, returned as the suspects were driving away.

Immediately after the hijacking, the woman contacted her car tracking service.

Meanwhile, using the hijacked vehicle, the same suspects proceeded to rob a Bakerton man of his belongings, but then they encountered the CPF who were busy patrolling the area.

A chase ensued, and the suspects eventually abandoned the vehicle in Geduld and attempted to flee.

The CPF and police members successfully tracked and arrested the three suspects.
