Strubenvale mechanic helps Meals on Wheels go further

Giving is not all about money: Local mechanic's amazing gift to Meals on Wheels.

A local mechanic has serviced the cars used by Meals on Wheels free of charge.

“I was delivering food and noticed that the car wouldn’t go into certain gears.

“I thought it was a small problem but when I took it the mechanic Lance Nefdt, he found that it was a big problem and parts were needed.

“I prayed about it and asked God to help us,” says Dennis Geldenhuys, a member of Meals on Wheels.

“God laid it on our hearts to help these people.

“They are doing a wonderful job providing food to people in need.

“My wife Reneè suggested it to me and I agreed,” says Nefdt.

“We wanted to find a way to thank the organisation after members delivered food to our relatives.

“We don’t have money to give but Lance had the expertise to help them.

“We wanted to help them stay on the road.

“Servicing a car and changing oil might seem small to others, but without it, Meals on Wheels wouldn’t be able to do their jobs, says Reneè Nefdt.

The couple, who also work for a local Christian organisation, are big believers in doing something from the heart and serving the Lord.

“God is the sole provider for each person and if everyone can give something from the heart, the world would be a better place,” says Lance.

Member of Meals on Wheels, Daleen Enslin was in tears after Nefdt’s donation.

“We are so grateful.

“I don’t have the words to say thank you.

“The cost of servicing the car would have cost two days’ worth of food.

“We are growing daily and the demand overrides our capacity.

“Not everyone can afford a cooked meal and our biggest concern is to keep up with the number of plates needed.

“This couple is doing amazing work.

Now, I can get more food because of what you have done,” says Enslin.

Those who wish to donate to Meals on Wheels can donate non-perishable food items, cutlery, crockery, clothing and cooking equipment.
