A colony of bees has invaded a fire hydrant on Austral Road, Selcourt.
Residents have had no luck in removing the bees.

“The problem started a month ago, and at first I tried smoking them out but that didn’t work,” says Ferdinand van Tonder.
“The hole where they get in is so small that a pen cannot get in.
“I called the fire department but they told me they are not responsible for it and they don’t remove bees anymore.
“I cannot fix it myself because it’s against the law to open municipal property,” says van Tonder.
The bees are a health hazard to the local residents because some of them are allergic to bee stings.
“My fear is if a fire were to break out, the firefighters would not be able to connect their hosepipes to the hydrant because of the bees.
“We cannot even sit outside because of the bees,” says van Tonder.
The metro failed to respond at the time of publishing.
