Rotary Club of Springs collects 2 000 liters of water for drought-stricken Western Cape

Rotary Club of Springs sets lofty target in water collection project.

The Rotary Club of Springs is doing their part to help people in drought-stricken Western Cape.

The club has set themselves an ambitious target of filling up a container with bottles filled with water.

The Kattidue Market hosted the club as they collected water for the people of the Western Cape.

Their efforts have been bolstered by the support of the community.

“We have collected 2 000 litres of water.

“This was over the past two days and the response has been amazing.

“The need was so dire that we had to help.

“We are trying to help as many people as possible.

“We cannot forget about the animals because they are also suffering,” says Siobheanne Landsberg, the president of the Rotary Club of Springs.

Janelle Hazely from Hope & Halos, who are partners with the club in this projects says, “We do a lot of work with the community and we wanted to help in any way we can.

Denzil van Jaarsveldt, Rae van Jaarsveldt, Janelle Hazley and Megan Lamprecht bring water to the Kattitude Market where the Rotary Club of Springs was collecting water.

“We also have friends in Cape Town, so it was important to us to play our part,” says Hazley.

The Rotary District 9350 will make sure of the distribution of the water and make sure it goes to the correct places and people.

“The people of Springs have been wonderful, and if you cannot donate water, you can bring an empty container.

“A generous gentleman has offered to fill up our containers with borehole water,” says Landsberg.

There is no cut-off date for donation at this point, however, people are urged to call and ask, if they want to donate.

“It all depends on when the truck is leaving,” says Landsberg.
