Tavern owner’s home invasion ordeal

A business robbery took place in Welgedacht at around 11.45pm on January 19.

The owner of a tavern was busy eating in his house when he heard people talking in the garage where his tavern is.

Amanda Greybe from the Springs police says the tavern owner went to investigate the noise.

One suspect pointed a firearm at him and demanded money.

The suspect allegedly hit him with an open hand and told him to lie on the floor.

Four more suspects entered the premises and one of the suspects went into the man’s home to fetch the rest of his family.

Returning to the garage, the man and his family were all instructed to lie down.

“The suspects started kicking the complainant in the head and demanded money,” says Greybe.

The man’s wife told the suspects the money was in the main bedroom and one of the suspects took her to the bedroom to retrieve the money which was inside a safe.

The family were then taken to the bedroom and locked inside as the suspects fled with the safe.

No arrests have been made.
