Jabu Mncube, a security guard who works nearby says, “The street can get quite dark at night and if you are walking on the grass at night, you could accidentally fall in.”

The cover for the manhole was stolen at the beginning of January and remains opens.
Local residents are especially worried now that schools are opening soon and there will be children walking on the street.

“A child could fall in and he or she would not be able to get out. I can stand inside it.
“That is how deep it is.”
Despite numerous reports to the Ekurhuleni Metro, the manhole remains open.
The municipality failed to respond in time for publishing.
