The box has been open for the past few months and, despite numerous reports to the municipality, it remains open.
Community members claim the municipality replaced the other faulty box on the same street, but left this one open.
Soanita Vosloo, headmistress at Aljander Pre-Primary School, says: “We are especially worried now because the box is still open and the school year is about to start.
“Children can get hurt if they touch the box or play with it.”
The school is less than 500 metres away from the open box.
The open electricity box is not only a danger to the children, but also the houses in the community.
Residents claim that at night, thieves cut off their electricity supply using the box and break into their homes.
The metro failed to respond at the time of publishing.
