Armed robbery at local pub and grill

An armed robbery took place at a pub and grill in Golden Springs at around 2.20am on Saturday.

Amanda Greybe, spokesperson for the Springs police says the complainant was on duty at the pub and was busy serving customers when he heard a gunshot inside the pub.

He allegedly noticed a male suspect holding a firearm, who went on stage where a DJ was busy playing music, and instructed everyone to lie down on the ground.

“He saw a second armed suspect who went to the counter and emptied the till,” she says.

An undisclosed amount of money was taken.

“While the complainant was lying on the floor, he managed to take his cellphone out of his pocket and phoned a security company,” says Greybe.

One of the suspects approached the complainant and allegedly pointed the firearm at him, aiming between the man’s eyes and threatened to shoot him.

The suspect asked the complainant where the money was and began searching the man, finding R40.

The rest of the customers were also searched and their cellphones and cash were taken before the suspects fled.

No one was injured during the incident and a case of armed robbery was opened.
