How to avoid a house break-in

Know the emergency numbers.

It is known that during festive season people are celebrating different festivities in different places -some go away for more than a night.

Tsakane police spokeswoman Sgt Lerato Mngomezulu shares some of the tips to keep your home safe from break-ins:

· Do not leave your home unattended. Have someone who will be on the lookout or stay behind in the house.

· Know your neighbour – this will help in having someone checking your house from time to time while you are away.

· Make sure your windows are properly closed and doors locked when going to sleep or going away.

· When loading your luggage make sure you are not seen because this might lead to criminals breaking into your home.

· When you bought new items for your home, especially plasma TVs and other expensive valuables that might attract criminals, make sure you dispose of the packaging to avoid to be targeted by criminals (Do not show off).
