Business goes extra mile for poor families

Geduld business staff spoil needy families with special food and treat parcels.

Bob Gillies is not just a businessman in Geduld, he also offers assistance to those in need.

Gillies and his staff see that members of the community, who can’t afford it, receive food parcels every month.

And although 62 disadvantaged families have already received their December food parcels, Gillies decided to give them a special Christmas gift on Wednesday.

As the recipients arrived at 7am, Gillies and his staff were ready to hand over parcels.

The packages contained a variety of food items, including one packet of meat, sugar, sweets, three bags of frozen vegetables, mealie meal, tinned food, half a loaf of bread, milk and stew.

The stew was made by one of Gillies’ employees, Jodi Botha.

“We are delighted to be able to support the Geduld families with the food parcels,” says Gillies.

“It is our responsibility to help them if they require aid.”

His right-hand man, Llewellyn Scheepers, says each child received a packet of assorted sweets.

“This parcel was a bonus for the disadvantaged families as we decided to give a little extra before we close for the December holidays on Friday,” Scheepers says.

One thing Gillies’ employees have in common is they all like to give back to the community.

“We have had a good year and the community supports our business; this is our way of bringing joy to others,” says Scheepers.

Sus Botha (70) says she has been receiving food parcels from Gillies and his team for the past four months.

“They are wonderful people who are doing the right thing by helping those in need,” she says.

Lyrisha Rudolph (32) says the extra food parcel was a surprise, and they appreciate the extra mile the people are going for others.

Her family have received food parcels from Gillies and his team for the past year.

“We are forever grateful for what they are doing for us.

“May God bless them,” says Rudolph.
