Sunny day for SPCA fundraiser

The SPCA fundraising event was even more successful than last year’s.

The Stable Inn hosted a family fun day in aid of the Springs SPCA on Sunday.

Gunte Kommer, owner of Stable Inn, is positive this year’s event was bigger than last year’s.

The aim was to enable the SPCA to cover its costs over the festive season and into the new year.

Kommer says they haven’t established yet how much they will donate, but their aim was R100 000.

“We collected R50 000 in 2016, but will only know on Tuesday afternoon how much we have raised.”

There was a beer tent for the adults to enjoy, various stalls to spend time at, as well as music and entertainment.

Various artists including Mac Young, Ola die Singende Nar and Karlien Husselman performed on the day.

The event kicked off at 7am with Springs Striders Athletic Club’s 5km walk/run and donation handover to the SPCA together with Shiobeanne Landsberg from the Springs Rotary Club.

Kommer says the weather played along and the children enjoyed the water slides and swimming pool.

“We often forget the people who are prepared to help, except when we need them if our loved animals are missing,” he says.

The date for the handover of the proceeds will be determined once the total amount has been established.
