Volunteers go beyond charity

Volunteers and helpers receives a warm gratitude wish.

SpringsCare, a non-profit organisation (NPO) reached out to the community of Springs and surrounding areas with feeding schemes, a counselling centre and a senior citizens club.

With the help of trained professionals the tasty, cost effective food packs, which have all the nutrients that are required for a substantial meal, are packed and distributed.

The food packs are provided to the local school’s feeding scheme and other needy recipients.

“Each pack contains sufficient ingredients to feed a family of six at a total cost of R15 per pack. This amount excludes transport and is the most cost effective way of feeding the needy,” says Juanita de Canha, SpringsCare social worker,

The food packs are packed by volunteers at churches, schools and civic associations.

She says strict health regulations are adhered to.

SpringsCare also runs a soup kitchen.

The soup kitchen, which provides soup and bread for the homeless and persons living in poverty, operates on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

“This is run from the SpringsCare facility with the voluntary assistance of George Volkwyn, who is also the driver of the mobile soup kitchen,” says de Canha.

The current supply of soup and bread ranges between 70 to 80 every week for the three operational days.

“We are endeavouring to operate the kitchen Monday to Friday if possible, with volunteer assistance for the bread and soup,” says de Canha.

The facility affords the community a caring service through volunteers and donations from individuals and corporate companies.

“We would like to thank all the volunteers and every single person who assisted us with our project this year, for their dedication and assistance.

“May you all have a blessed Christmas and peaceful New Year. We will see you all in 2018,” says de Canha.
