Thembinkosi ‘Themba’ Machaba achieved his Springbok Badge on November 26.
According to his Troop Scout Kylie Hulley-Miller, only one per cent of Scouts achieve this award, which is one of the highest achievements you can achieve in a scouting career.
“Scouts are from 11-18 years old and have five advancement levels to pass before they reach Springbok level.
“Once they turn 18 they cannot pass it,” says Kylie.
Melissa Campbell is the assistant Troop Scout of Themba’s group.
He is Kylie and Melissa’s first Springbok Scout since they have been running the troop four years ago.
“We are extremely proud of Themba and all the hard work he has put into getting his Springbok,” says Kylie.
Themba feels very proud he has achieved this badge in his scouting career and says he could not have done it without the help of his Troop Scouts, his mother and all his fellow Scouts.
“My journey to getting my Springbok was an unforgettable one – it was fun but there were tough times as well,” says Themba.
“Thank you to everyone who helped me through my Springbok journey.”
