Christmas treat to Geduld families

Feeding underprivileged families has been Marsha Horn's life long passion.

With the help of the Rotary Club of Springs Park and a Strubenvale supermarket, Marsha Horn was able to hand out Christmas hampers to 80 families in the Geduld community on Saturday.

Projek Uitkoms was established by Marsha Horn who has worked with the Rotarians for the past 11 years.

The club has been donating gifts, food, stationery, clothes and shoes which has helped her serve needy families.

“Christmas is supposed to be a happy time but it can be expensive and even depressing if you don’t have enough resources to enjoy a festive family meal,” says Marsha.

Ana Caldeira, owner of the supermarket in Strubenvale, has been of great help to the project as well.

Marsha says Caldeira and her late husband Manny have been of great help by donating Christmas hampers and have assisted with donations for the past five years.

The Caldeiras help me to feed 150 school children, which includes 30 preschool children.

“It was heart-warming to hand out the Christmas gifts to the children,” says Marsha.

Her two stalwarts, Ans Holtzhausen and Mara Coetzer, have always been willing to assist her where they can.

Every Monday, Alida Willemse who is 80 years old, cooks pasta and rice for Marsha and has been doing so for the past 15 years.

“Their support is much appreciated,” says Marsha.

She has been serving the community for over 15 years and refers to the project as her lifelong passion to feed underprivileged families.

“My husband has been a huge support and without his support it would not have been possible,” says Marsha.
