Nigel Road restaurant owner assaulted at his house

Local restaurant owner hit over hit over his head at his house in Selcourt.

Springs police are investigating a case of attempted murder of the owner of a local restaurant in Nigel Road who was hit on the head with a firearm on Saturday morning.

According to police spokesperson, Capt Johannes Ramphora, the owner entered his property at 2.40am, in Rhokana Street, Selcourt when he was assaulted from behind.

“The owner stopped his vehicle and three unknown men opened his door and assaulted him and demanded cash,” says Ramphora.

When the suspects demanded the house keys, they allegedly took the restaurant keys and tried to unlock the house, but failed.

Ramphora says upon hearing the noise at the door, the owner’s brother-in-law went to open the door to check what was happening.

“When he saw the three armed men struggling with the security door, one of the men fired a shot and the man was hit in his stomach.

“The three suspects ran away,” says Ramphora.

It is believed the owner’s brother-in-law is suffering from stage four cancer.

The owner was taken to a nearby hospital while his brother was airlifted to Union Hospital in Alberton.

“We are investigating a case of attempted murder and house robbery,” says Ramphora.
