Four dogs poisoned in Selection Park

Sounais Ceronio doesn’t understand how anyone could be so heartless as to kill innocent animals.

Four dogs were reported poisoned in Selection Park on Monday.

Sounais Ceronio from Goodman Street is saddened by the death of her two dogs, a pit bull terrier and a Jack Russell.

She doesn’t understand how anyone could be so heartless as to kill innocent animals.

“I heard the dogs barking at about 3.45am, and the only streetlight working in Goodman Street was also dead at the time.”

Ceronio says her animals were here because her family loved them and they brought joy to the family.

At this stage, it’s still not clear why these dogs were poisoned, or what substance was used.

However, Ceronio says they removed spiky white stuff from the dog’s mouths which looked like thorns.

The Ceronio family has been living in Selection Park for almost 22 years and never experienced anything like this before.

She says she was impressed with the police when she called 10111 for assistance, as they soon passed the message on to the relevant department who sent someone to her house.

She found it strange that the Jack Russell ate the poison, as he never used to take food from others.

“Our dogs were our children and we have decided to let the other two dogs sleep inside now, as we cannot allow them to be poisoned as well.”

Her Great Dane misses his four-legged friends and doesn’t want to eat.

“He has an upset stomach, probably due to tension,” says Ceronio.

Piet Jooste, who lives across the road from the Ceronios, says his aunt Thia Fourie also lost two dogs on the same evening.

Both Fourie’s dogs, a Welsh collie and a Jack Russell, died after eating poison.

“We received reports last Monday of four dogs that have died as a result of poisoning,” Springs police spokesperson Capt Johannes Ramphora confirms.
