The Springs police found the body of a man lying in an open mealie field next to Welgedacht Road in Welgedacht Agricultural Holdings on Friday.
According to Springs SAPS spokesperson, Capt Johannes Ramphora, a sector vehicle was on a routine patrol at 6.30am when they received an alert regarding the body.
On arrival at the scene they found an unknown man lying face down on the ground.
“The body was half naked and the clothing was torn,” Ramphora says.
Dry blood was found on the left eye, but due to the rain there was no other visible evidence.
Ramphora says a passerby identified the deceased as Richard Letera, a Malawian immigrant.
A case of murder was opened at Springs Police Station.
