Local girl chosen as Miss Commonwealth SA 2017 finalist

Miss Commonwealth South Africa has opened new doors for Mpho Thahale by creating a new dawn for a generation of royals who will bring about transformation.

Mpho Thahale from Wright Park has been selected as one of the finalists in this year’s Miss Commonwealth South Africa (SA) pageant for the title holder competition.

Through the pageant, Thahale aims to empower young women with the knowledge to bring about change in communities in need.

“I would like to volunteer to host a series of workshops that focus on the empowerment of young women through awareness and skills development and also be able to continue the work that I do with Thero ya Sechaba in Geluksdal,” says Thahale.

Thahale says she has always wanted to enter the Miss Commonwealth SA.

“Entering the pageant was more about taking a leap of faith and I believe that now, more than ever, I am actually ready to wear the crown,” says Thahale.

The pageant’s main focus is the internal and external development of young women.

Thahale says attending the two-day leadership and empowerment session for the finalists, which was held at Wits University, was an eye-opener for her.

“The Wits development and leadership course ensures finalists receive extensive grooming before we embark on a journey of being ambassadors of change.”

“The finalists are then equipped to add value to their communities and peers,” says Thahale.

Thahale recently completed her undergraduate in International Relations and Anthropology at Wits University
