The body of a man was found by Police search and rescue team divers at a dam in Wit Road, Selection Park on Saturday.
According to police spokesperson, Capt Johannes Ramphora, two friends were fishing from a canoe at 5pm, when it capsized and the one friend drowned.
While trying to turn the canoe, the deceased (age unknown) informed his friend he wasn’t feeling well and disappeared in the water.
Ramphora says the friend tried to find the deceased, but couldn’t and called for help.
Bystanders all searched for the deceased but couldn’t find him and called for police assistance.
“The dedicated team of police divers found the deceased’s body between the reeds,” says Ramphora.
Paramedics declared the man dead on the scene.
An inquest has been opened for investigation.
