Man found shot in front of pub in Selection Park

Two suspects robbed and killed a man during a robbery.

A man was fatally shot outside a bar at 1.40am, this morning (Friday).

The man, Ian Gouws, was shot in front of a pub in Phoenix Road, Selection Park, by an armed suspect.

Police were at the scene of the shooting and saw a woman who was reeling from the loss of her fiancé.

“The couple was locking up the bar at the time of the shooting,” says Capt Johannes Ramphora, Springs police spokesperson.

The deceased’s 50-year-old fiancé was in their vehicle waiting for the deceased (age unknown) to close the gate to the premises when she allegedly heard two gunshots.

After the shooting, a suspect opened the passenger-side door of her vehicle and demanded cash.

“They handed over the cash she had with her as well as her cellphone and noticed two suspects fleeing the scene,” says Ramphora.

The woman ran to her fiancé who was lying on the floor with a bullet wound to his left arm.

Ramphora says paramedics were called and certified the man dead.

Police examined potential evidence behind the barricade which might assist them in their investigation.

An amount of R300 and a cellphone were taken from the scene.

“We have not yet identified the suspects and are investigating a case of murder,” says Ramphora.
