Woman airlifted after accident on R29 near Springs

Another woman airlifted to hospital after she sustained serious injuries in a collision.

Three people were injured in a collision between a bakkie and a light motor vehicle on the R29 near Springs on Friday morning.

A woman sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to Mediclinic Sandton for further treatment.

At 7.11am, ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene of an accident on the R29 near Springs.

A bakkie was found on the side of the road while a light motor vehicle was found on the opposite side of the road.

Er 24 spokesperson Russel Meiring says a man and a young boy (age unknown) were found walking from the light motor vehicle towards the bakkie where a woman was found to be trapped inside.

Ekurhuleni Disaster Management and Emergency Services were already on the scene.

Meiring says rescue services had to use the jaws-of-life equipment to free the woman from the vehicle, an operation which lasted 30 minutes.

“Once freed, paramedics found the woman had sustained numerous injuries and was in a critical condition,” he says.

Paramedics treated the three patients on the scene and provided the critically injured woman with advanced life support interventions.

“Once treated, the woman was airlifted by the ER24 Oneplan Helicopter to Mediclinic Sandton for further treatment,” says Meiring.

The man and young child were transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital.

The exact cause of the collision is not yet known but the police and EMPD officers were on the scene.
