Reports state a truck driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle and collided with a small vehicle.
Nick Dollman, media liaison for Netcare 911, says both vehicles then left the road.
“The incident and preceding events will form part of a police investigation,” he says.
Netcare 911 Advanced Life Support paramedics attended to the 24-year-old female occupant of the car who had sustained multiple and severe injuries and was in a critical condition.
“She was also trapped inside the car which had substantial damage and local fire fighters used the ‘Jaws of Life’ to free her from the wreck.”
Due to her significant injuries, the patient was placed on a ventilator and airlifted by Netcare 911’s specialised helicopter
The patient was taken to a specialised trauma unit for urgent medical attention.
The Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department were at the scene and are investigating the incident.
