Two bogus police officers arrested in Springs

Suspects pose as police officers while committing crime.

Springs police arrested two suspects for possession of unlicensed firearms and for impersonating a police officer on Sunday.

Sgt Mzamihle Hlela and Sgt Kamshinqa Mtlaing from the Germiston Flying Squad were on routine patrol at 6pm, when they noticed two suspicious-looking men on the corner of Second Street and Fourth Avenue, Springs.

According to police spokesperson, Capt Johannes Ramphora, the two policemen stopped and searched the suspects.

The policemen found two 9mm pistols and 18 rounds of ammunition, a wallet with a police badge, a cell phone, balaclava and one glove in the suspects’ possession

The suspects allegedly robbed illegal miners in Slovo Park by pretending to be police officers.

“When they were arrested they informed the police they were on their way to Slovo Park to rob the illegal miners,” says Ramphora.

The suspects were taken to the police cells where they will remain until their court appearance.
