No extended deadline according to metro

Metro claims Pyaneville construction deadline is still end of October.

The following comment was received from the metro about the extended construction deadline at Payneville Extension One.

According to metro spokesperson, Themba Gadebe, construction at the site is for Payneville Extension One and not Payneville Extension Three.

RDP houses will be built on the property situated on the corner of Welgedacht and Grootvlay roads.

“The department is currently not implementing the Payneville Extension Three project,” he says.

Phase One of Payneville Extension One consists of remedial work on the existing water and sanitation infrastructure.

Gadebe says although the contractors experienced interference from the community and the local business forums as well as theft of office equipment, construction plant and material, the phase will still be completed at the end of October.

Phase Two is projected to start in the 2018/2019 financial year as the metro is currently completing the construction planning as required by the project readiness matrix.

“The project will be included in the Gauteng Department of Human Settlement 2018/2019 business plan,” he says.

This phase will consist of the construction of RDP houses for residents of Gugulethu Everest informal settlement, who have been identified.

“All the beneficiaries who qualify for RDP houses as per the approved criteria, will benefit from the houses,” says Gadebe.
