Metro looking to employ over 2 000 waste brigades

Ekurhuleni metro is currently on a drive to recruit over 2 000 waste brigades for the upcoming Keep Ekurhuleni Clean programme.

The Ekurhuleni metro is currently looking for over 2 000 waste brigades for the upcoming Keep Ekurhuleni Clean programme.

“The aim of the programme is to ensure that Ekurhuleni is kept clean, whilst promoting social cohesion and preservation of the environment,” says metro spokesperson, Themba Gadebe.

Gadebe says the programme is in line with the Siyaqhuba Mayoral Outreach Programme that was launched by the executive mayor of Ekurhuleni, Mzwandile Masina, last year.

The programme will employ over 2 000 residents from across the city, 2 240 waste management brigades and 112 supervisors from different wards while 20 co-ordinators will be working at the customer care centre.

“The day to day work schedule for the waste brigades will include turning illegally dumped waste within the city into good recycling jobs through by targeting women, youth, and people living with disabilities,” says Gadebe.

Ekurhuleni residents with a valid South African identity document can apply and the period of employment will be 18 months.

Applications or CVs are to be submitted from October 16 to 20, during weekdays from 9am to 3pm in person at all customer care centres in:

“No faxed or emailed applications will be accepted and no payment is required to apply,” says Gadebe.
