Local NPO’s needed to help Hope iThemba

Hope IiThemba Pregnancy Crisis Centre seeks drug rehabilitation centres and shelter for people who have no where to go.

Hope iThemba Pregnancy Crisis Centre is in need of drug rehabilitation centres and shelter for people who are sick.

This comes after the crisis centre has had to deal with walk-ins from drug addicts seeking rehab and sick people who have nowhere to go.

“We have a case where a person needs shelter because he or she is sick or homeless. We also have drug addicts who are in need of urgent rehab centres,” says Thandi Madi, a receptionist at Hope iThemba.

“We are a non-profit organisation (NPO) that aims to help women going through pregnancy and mothers of young children to understand their pregnancy so they can care for their children.

“It becomes very difficult, however, when we have people outside our main focus,” says Madi.

Madi says the centre has touched the lives of pregnant women and also those who are in need of their help.

“We have been trying to assist where we can as we have people coming from far because they heard of us through our patients since we give them hope,” says Madi.

Another receptionist at the centre, Rosemary Bothma, says their conscious doesn’t allow them to turn away people who are in need of rehab or shelters.

“We cannot really chase them away because at the end of the day they also need our help and they come to us knowing that we can assist them,” says Bothma.

Bothma says the centre is looking for local NPOs to work with them so that they will be able to provide help to the people.

“We have a list of numbers but no one to help; hence, we are asking the community to assist us with some of the things that we cannot do ourselves.”

The centre can be visited at Eighth Street in the Springs CBD on Monday to Thursday between 10am and 3pm and Friday between 10am and 12noon.
