Welgedacht resident Caroline van Vuuren says fixing the Payneville intersection traffic light has been long overdue.
“It doesn’t matter what time you leave home in the morning or return in the afternoon, there was always traffic congestion,” she says.
But the Slovo Park traffic light also contributed to the traffic congestion and has not been fixed yet.
“Both traffic lights were not working for more than a month,” she says.
However, van Vuuren is happy to see the Payneville traffic light has been repaired.
According to ward Clr Ramesh Sheodin he has reported both traffic lights to the metro several times.
“I have witnessed many accidents at the Payneville intersection due to the traffic light not working,” he says.
The metro assured him contractors were appointed to repair the traffic lights.
“It seemed to me the contractors were having a problem with the electricity connection to those traffic lights,” he says.
The Payneville traffic lights were repaired during the course of last week.
Sheodin says the traffic lights at Slovo Park are knocked down nearly every month on weekends due to accidents.
“The municipality seems to always repair them within a few days,” says Ramesh.
However, why it hasn’t been repaired quickly this time he didn’t want to comment on.
Despite sending questions to the metro two weeks ago, they failed to comment at the time of going to print.
