Excellent attendance at educational camps

Through the Secondary School Intervention Programmes (SSIP), the Gauteng East District aims to boost matric learners academic performances.

With matric finals expected to start in mid-October, the Gauteng East District is currently running Secondary School Intervention Programme (SSIP) to help assist learners within the district.

The SSIP aims to uplift matric learners’ current academic performance for the 2017 National Senior Certificate Examinations.

Poovan Chetty, Gauteng Department of Education chief education specialist says the camps had excellent attendance from learners at the walk-ins and the stay over camps that are held at Springs Technical High School ( HTS) and Stable Inn.

“The MEC-Education Panyaza Lesufi had officially opened the camps at the Etwatwa and Daveyton areas,” says Chetty.

The camp is a final drive from the district region, Ekurhuleni and ultimately Gauteng.

“The camps are a priority for the department as we want our learners to achieve better marks.”

The department has provided additional study material so the learners are well prepared for the finals.

Study breaks and sporting codes have been made available to the learners providing a balanced environment.

“We still urge parents in supporting the department by ensuring the Grade 12’s attend the walk-ins and stay overs for the next two weeks.”

The camps were hosted at 12 sites based at Daveyton, Etwatwa and Kwatsaduza which are Springs HTS, BB Myataza, Phandimfundo, Vezukhono, HB Nyathi, Lifa Ifa, Kenneth Masekela, Asser Maloka, NN Ndebele, Tsakane Extenson Eight, Mamellong and Geluksdal.
