Vischkuil man will be back in court in November

A local businessman briefly appeared in the Springs Regional Court on Thursday.

The case was postponed to November 15 for further investigation.

The 56-year-old man is facing charges of possession of unlicensed firearms, ammunition, explosives and contravention of Firearms Control Act 60 of 200.

On August 22, Gauteng Hawks National Bureau of Illegal Firearms Control and Priority Violent Crimes (NBIFCPVC) arrested the man in Fourth Street, Vischkuil, after a five-month investigation.

According to Hawks acting head Lt Gen Yolisa Matakata the arrest followed information they received about a suspect who was allegedly in possession of suspected illegal firearms and ammunition.

Different kinds of explosives, 16 shotguns, a revolver, 1.5-million rounds of ammunition, signal flares, hand grenades and electronic detonators were seized during the search by the Hawks, in conjunction with the Springs police, SAPS Bomb Disposal Unit and SAPS K9 Dog Unit.

The accused appeared in court on August 23 and was granted bail of R5 000.

His bail was extended and he will appear in court again on November 15.
