Suspects run away from robbery leaving their loot behind

Copper cables and other stolen goods were taken by six armed suspects during a business robbery.

Six suspects armed with firearms and knives robbed a business in Welgedacht Agricultural Holdings on Tuesday.

They entered the guard room at 1am, where one security guard was on duty.

Capt Johannes Ramphora, Springs police spokesperson, says when the guard noticed the suspects, three suspects pointed their firearms at him and he noticed three suspects were armed with knives.

He was tied up with his own shoelaces and the suspects instructed him to kneel down.

Three suspects stayed with the guard while their accomplices proceeded to the workshop where they found a driver asleep in one of the trucks.

Both the driver and guard’s cell phones were taken.

The driver’s hands were also tied up with his shoelaces.

Three drums full of copper cables as well as grading machines, a welding machine, gym weights and a punching bag were removed from the workshop.

“The suspects were disturbed by the supervisor who arrived at the premises.

“They ran away leaving their loot outside the workshop,” says Ramphora.

No shots were fired. The suspects gained entry to the premises through the fence.
