Jabulani Mashinini (37) was found guilty and convicted of hijacking a white Toyota Avanze in Etwatwa in December 2016.
The victim was driving his car at 7.50pm when Mashinini and his friend stopped the vehicle.
“Both suspects instructed the victim to get out of the vehicle and run before driving off,” says Springs police spokesperson Capt Johannes Ramphora.
The suspects drove towards Duduza where they were stopped by the police.
One suspect jumped out of the vehicle and ran away but they managed to apprehend Mashinini.
“We verified the vehicle information with Etwatwa Police Station who confirmed the vehicle was hijacked,” says Ramphora.
Mashinini will serve his sentence at Nigel Correctional Services.
