Guards witness robbery

Suspects allegedly informed guards they are not there to kill them.

Two security guards witnessed a business robbery in Industrial Road, New Era on Friday.

They were alone in the guard room next to the main gate at 12pm, when two suspects entered the room.

Capt Johannes Ramphora, Springs police spokesperson, says one of the suspects pointed a firearm at the guards.

“The two suspects informed the guards they were not there to kill them, but only to steal,” he says.

The two guards were taken inside the building where the alarm system was disconnected.

Ramphora says the guards witnessed three other suspects loading stolen goods into a red VW Polo.

Entry to the property was gained through a wall that was damaged at the back of the business.

Grinders, reglators, safety gloves, welding rods and helmets, blue overalls, welding machines, a cutting torch, a handy pack and a two-plate stove were stolen from the premises.

No shots were fired and a case of business robbery is being investigated.
