Service delivery – at last!

New traffic lights to be installed on Nigel road and Davis Drive intersection

Motorists traveling on Nigel Road could face delays this week at the intersection of Nigel Road and Davis Drive in Selection Park as new traffic lights are being installed.

Metro workers have been seen at the intersection for the past two weeks installing and changing old cables and layering new ones.

“All the old robots need some refurbishment because they are old and it’s difficult to synchronize them,” says Shadow Shabangu, ward councillor.

A new set of traffic lights will be erected in order to replace the old ones that were damaged.

Catherine Bukes, a motorist says the improvement was long overdue as the signal was always delayed.

“Waiting for the green light to go on when coming from the Springs CBD side caused frustration because one would have to wait for a long time.”

“Nigel Road is a main road and as a daily motorist I expect the traffic lights to be much quicker and faster to avoid traffic.”

Another motorist, Sizwe Nkosi says he is happy the metro is improving traffic lights as well as roads.

“I’m very happy to see daily improvements on our streets. It goes to show that the services we always complain about are finally being delivered to us,” says Nkosi.

“Every week I notice metro workers fixing or repairing roads too which is also a good start to a better Springs.”

The metro had not commented at the time of going to print.
