New approach to child welfare

New campaign launched to get businesses on board with child welfare.

Springs and KwaThema Child Welfare Society recently launched its Hold-our-Hand campaign.

Adéle Horn, fund-raiser for the organisation, says the aim of the campaign is to attract companies or individuals who are willing to “hold their hand”.

Their vision is to provide a caring environment for children.

“Children are our future and inspiration,” says Horn.

The organisation serves demarcated areas in Springs and KwaThema by identifying and protecting children at risk.

It seeks to reduce the risk to children by finding, mobilising, directing and developing resources towards their care, protection and education.

“We promote the nurturing, education and development of children,” she says.

The committee has identified monthly expenses that they are unable to cover due to inadequate government grants.

They also need additional staff to deal with the overload of cases of destitute children.

“We have compiled a list with the distinct items and what the cost is on a monthly basis.

“To help us, a company can hold our hand by choosing an item they would like to contribute and the period of time they are willing to do so,” says Horn.

She believes the contribution will have a direct effect on their mission to bring about positive change in the lives of children.

“Staff will be able to function better and reach more families by focusing on their jobs instead of carrying the burden of the organisation’s finances,” says Horn.
