Kites flying high at PLG Springs Academy

PLG Springs Academy hosted its first Kite flying day on Saturday.

Temperatures reached 29 degrees, there was bright green grass and the sweet scents of spring were in the air when learners dressed in spring gear arrived in high spirits at the PLG Springs Academy flaunting their brightly coloured kites on Saturday.

“It was a great family day filled with laughter, exercise and cameraderie,” says PLG Springs Academy principal Cathy Bauthier.

Teachers assisted with mending homemade kites and families rallied together to ensure their kites flew as high as possible.

The weather conditions were perfect with the wind making its presence felt.

Michael Engelbrecht a Grade Six pupil flew his kite the highest.

Nkanyezi Madonsela in Grade One won the prize for the most creative kite and the family of Hlompho Zabala in Grade One and Nomhle Motshwane in Grade R won a prize for the family for having the ‘best spirit’.

The day offered the learners something more fun and entertaining than school books.

“This day was a winner and is now firmly fixed on our calendar – we hope our kite flying day next year will be a great success too,” says Bauthier.
