Wellness of employees considered

The well-being of employees needs to be taken care of.

The staff of SA Epilepsy Centre in Daggafontein were treated to a wellness awareness day on Thursday.

“The workplace plays a vital role in the health and happiness of employees,” says Audrey Mtimkulu, the centre’s manager.

Mtimkulu feels management sometimes overlook the importance of their employees’ well-being.

“Our focus was on professional wellness which busy employees can often overlook.

“Employees are the backbone of the centre and efficiency in the workplace is important,” she says.

To enable management to assist their employees, they hosted a joint wellness day with an insurance group scheme as well as St Francis Care Centre from Benoni.

Employees received advice from financial advisors on their current policies and how to prepare for their future.

St Francis offered counselling, did blood pressure, sugar, tuberculosis and sexually transmitted infections screenings.

Mtimkulu says everyone often forgets to thank their employees enough and by offering these services when they don’t always have the time to go for financial advice or have time for medical check-ups, is wonderful.

She went on to say: “To focus on our own wellness allows us to better serve others.

“By doing this we will create a healthier workplace for everyone on our team,” says Mtimkulu.
