Security gate bars suspects from entering couple’s bedroom in Bakerton

A Bakerton couple's narrow escape when their family home was broken in to.

A couple living in 19th Street in Bakerton Extension One were woken up by their house alarm at 2.50am on Saturday.

“When the wife peeped through the window, she noticed four suspects on their property,” says Capt Johannes Ramphora, spokesperson for the Springs police.

She claims two of the suspects were wearing balaclavas.

The suspects gained entry to the house by breaking open the security door and smashing the sliding door with a brick and a chair.

Ramphora says the victims claim they heard a loud noise but decided to stay in their bedroom.

The suspects failed to break down the security door separating the bedrooms from the rest of the house.

Ramphora says the 69-year-old man called his son who contacted the Bakerton CPF for assistance.

When the couple’s son arrived at the house, the suspects had already left the scene.

They noticed that only a TV and blanket were stolen.

“We found a cartridge on the scene and there was a bullet hole in the sitting room,” says Ramphora.

Police are investigating a case of house robbery.
