Celebrity appearances help charity with fund-raising

Businesses support non-profit organisation on Secretary Day.

To create a buzz for their event, Springs and KwaThema Child Welfare Society celebrated Secretary Day with a few celebrities.

The fund-raising high tea was held at Cinnamon Circle in Strubenvale where celebrities were seated with guests at their tables.

Project manager Sanet van Moerkerken says the guests were surprised when they saw more celebrities than they expected.

Singer Phillip Moolman entertained the guests and Altus Thiart was master of ceremonies.

“The organised MC famous soap actor Arno Greeff couldn’t make it to the event due to unforeseen circumstances,” says van Moerkerken.

She said there are more events coming up and this event will be held annually.

Ruda Landman was another guest of honour.

Child Welfare board member and organiser of the event, Adéle Horn, says they have created an opportunity to say thank you to all secretaries.

“The event was successful and the attendance was good.

“The idea of celebrity appearances was really a genuinely fantastic method to generate public interest,” she says.

Horn says the five items auctioned raised about R12 000 which will be contributed to the society,” says Horn.

“The number of people present demonstrated to us this function would be successful as an annual event.
“We do hope this year’s tea will drive substantial awareness for our organisation,” says Horn.

Anneke Bezuidenhout and Doreen Opperman, who represented a Nuffield business, say they love the idea and the positive way in which the proceedings took place.

“This is our way of ploughing back into the community and supporting the welfare society is even better,” says Bezuidenhout.

Felicitas School staff Welmien Cronje, Janet Barns and Joy Kellerman say when they received the email about the event, they immediately decided it was for a good cause.

“It was a wonderful, well-organised day and well-spent with the celebrities and people from the welfare society.

“The celebrities we met was a bonus,” says Cronje.

Thiart says: “If possible I would like to join them on November 7 at the Pollak Park Golf Club for their golf day fundraiser.”
