Kidnapped child safe, mother in police cells

Alleged kidnapper will appear in court soon.

A Springs woman, who allegedly kidnapped her daughter for the fourth time, was arrested in Reiger Park on Monday.

She is facing charges of kidnapping, child abandonment and theft of a motor vehicle.

The 46-year-old woman kidnapped her daughter (6) and a two-year-old boy from a Springs place of safety on August 1.

She also took a Datsun 1200 bakkie.

On August 2 the boy was found abandoned in a hotel room but there was no sign of the woman or her daughter.

The boy was reunited with his mother shortly after he was found.

SAPS spokesperson, Capt Johannes Ramphora confirms the mother was arrested and will appear in court soon.

Hi5Kids Recovery Unit task team founder Barries Barnard says the investigating officer received positive information from the community on the whereabouts of the woman and child.

They immediately went to Reiger Park where they found them.

Barnard says without the assistance from the community who share the flyers on social media, their jobs would be more difficult.

“Every person who shared the flyer on social media plays an important role which brings us closer to finding the missing children,” says Barnard.

Teams involved, since August 1, in searching for the pair include his task team, Springs Police Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) unit, technical support teams, South African Support Initiative and the South African Community Crime Watch, as well as Wild Wild Guardians, Tsakane police, Hillbrow police, Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) K9 dog unit, Brixton Flying Squad and Pretoria Flying Squad.

The child was taken to a place of safety.

The woman will appear in court soon.
