Springs Boys’ High School to host its second annual band tattoo

Springs Boys’ High School (SBHS) in partnership with Hoerskool Oosterland will be hosting their second annual Tattoo on September 2.

Springs Boys’ High School (SBHS), together with Hoërskool Oosterland, will host their second annual Tattoo on September 2 at the school.

The Springs Boys’ brass band is a talented group of just over 50 boys, the majority of who are juniors in Grade Eight and Nine.

The brass band brings pride to the school and local community and a fun fact to note is that one of their teachers, band manager Johannes Ratsela, now also fully participates in the experience.

“I’ve been with the band for the past six years and on our practice days we are literally at school from sunrise to sunset,” says Ratsela.

“Seeing how much fun the boys have as they work hard together inspired me to take up an instrument myself.”

Band master, Brian Boucher explains that the idea of tattoos originates from military bands coming together as one to give a show; displaying their small bombs, flair, tactics, fireworks and marching band performances.

“We’ve kept the same essence running through our show except of course bylaws wouldn’t allow us the small bombs,” says Boucher.

“The band is mostly made up of new learners and it’s amazing how much work they put into it all. What touches my heart the most is the continued support of parents and the community,” says Ratsela.

Ratsela notes everyone will be entertained as there will be guest performances of different genres.

Festivities start at 6pm with tickets at R40 per person and are available at the school gate.
