Choir fundraising festival

Fundraising choirs perform in aid of Vita Nova Centre.

For the past three years, Vita Nova Centre has been the charity choice of choirs performing in aid of the non-profit organisation.

“Our Festivamente music production at the Springs Theatre on Sunday was an amazing event,” says Marina Potgieter, organiser of the event.

Rueben Mazibuko, who is an opera singer and Vita Nova board member, walked the path with Potgieter to assist her in organising the event.

“It’s not just about raising money for this worthwhile cause but also about the singers as many of us are in choirs and love singing,” says Mazibuko.

He says: “Artistic Choral Choir is the KwaThema-based choir I love listening to.

“To assist us in raising funds for the centre, the choirs who performed offered their beautiful voices at no cost,” he says.

Mazibuko recently started the Vita Nova Choir as well as the Vita Nova Angels choir.

The angels entertained the crowd with their beautiful and angelic voices to the powerful music by pianist Marion Pillay.

Choirs who lined up to perform on the day included the Bach Choir led by Tim Roberts and Cantare Jubiloso under the leadership of Professor Gideon Else.

Pillay was also accompanied by two well-established soloists Nonhlanhla Mabhena, who is also a member of the Artistic Choral Choir from KwaThema and ShioNeill, a talented South African female vocalist and artist.

Mazibuko says both vocalists have fantastic voices.

The organisers planned a mass choir production, led by Bassie Lesia from KwaThema, to round off the Festivamente.

“It was and amazing event followed by lots of positive comments afterwards,” adds Mazibuko.

Vita Nova currently caters for 115 helpless persons with cerebral palsy, Down Syndrome, autism, as well as mental and physical disabilities, from the age of three to 73 years.
