The organisers of the Hope and Halos fund-raising bingo event were impressed with the support they received from the community on Saturday evening.
The event was held at the Springs Old Boys Club.
Craig Bosman was the winner of the first round.
“The evening was well supported and the money raised will be ploughed back into supporting the charities and family we currently support,” says Louise Mawhinney, co-founder of Hope and Halos.
The non-profit organisation’s aim is to grow to a point where they can be of substantial assistance to individuals and organisations that are in dire need.
“Be it by way of emotional support, financial aid in the form of food, clothing or other needs, providing professional services and feeding schemes, or by just rolling up our sleeves and physically getting involved in the community,” she says.
They don’t make any cash donations to any beneficiary, but rather use the money to buy what is needed and when.
The NPO was registered on June 23 and has since supported Potters Haven in Struisbult and Vita Nova Centre in Daggafontein.
Nikki Belford and co-founder Mawhinney also support Thandabantu Community Centre in Geduld.
“We are currently assisting a family, mother and her five children and their dog, in Krugersdorp who were living in their car,” she says.
The committee consists of 12 dedicated women, all of whom do this from the heart.
“We take no salaries, administration costs, petrol allowance or telephone costs from the money we receive.
“Everything is done by us from our hearts, says Mawhinney.
Their next big initiative is a Christmas party for the beneficiaries mentioned above.
“We are currently putting together a wish list to ensure each child receives a Christmas gift,” she says.
Belford and Mawhinney say the Springs community has been amazing with their support thus far.
“Without them and their kindness we could most definitely not do what we are doing.
“We are grateful for their support at every fund-raising event we host,” she says.
