Clean on all platforms, says SCF

The goal of the Springs Community Forum is mainly awareness.

Springs Community Forum (SCF) supports all Springs schools with social crime prevention.

This includes dealing with school projects and social issues in the community.

The founder’s meeting was recently held at the Springs Technical High School under the auspices of Marius Smit.

The imitative was put into action when Smit decided to make a change to the challenges they face around the school.

“We are confronted with filth in the form of refuse dumping, drugs and prostitution.

“This affects not only the learners but the community at large as well,” he says.

Therefore, the aim of the SCF is to serve the schooling community of Springs in the form of clean-up projects, training, development and support to educators, learners, parents and the broader community.

“The forum tasks itself to assist with a clean and safe schooling environment,” says Smit.

He believes this project will teach about community service not only on school property but also around the school.

“Through this initiative, we also teach them how to give back to the community,” he says.

Their first active community service was held recently when they cleaned the open area opposite Twelve and Dump streets, CBD.

Smit believes it was a successful initiative and all the learners enjoyed it.

“The learners also learned all professions are noble and by reaching out we can secure a cleaner environment,” says Smit.

The forum is under the backings of Laerskool Werda, Springs Technical High School, Springs police, EMPD, Afriforum, two local security companies and a local realty company.

He says to have all these organisations and businesses on board means a lot to them.

“We would also like to invite any members of the community as well as all the schools in Springs to become part of this project,” he says.

He states the learners involved in the project will each receive a Sursum badge at the school’s prize-giving at the end of the year.

“This will encourage them to tell others about the project and to spread the word of community awareness,” adds Smit.

The next SCF meeting will be held on September 6 at Springs Technical High School, Wit Road, at 10am.
