Diane Freeman has taken over the reins as principal of Springs Boys’ High School.
She is an experienced teacher who matriculated from Springs Girls’ High School in 1981 and completed her teacher’s diploma at the University of the Witwatersrand.
Freeman commenced her teaching career at SBHS in 1987, teaching geography and isiZulu.
She was promoted to head of department for social science in 1997 and was appointed as the school’s second female deputy principal in 1999.
She held this position until January, when she became acting principal.
Freeman is the school’s sixth principal since its opening in 1940.
“I am truly honoured to be given the awesome task of leading this wonderful school,” says Freeman.
The principal sees herself as an educationalist and has a track record of supporting the boys on the sport field.
“Having always been a positive, I believe in the future of the school,” she says.
She has the expertise and experience to take this school to exciting new levels.
“I was overwhelmed when I received the news of taking over the reins,” says Freeman.
She is excited about the future and growth of the school.
Freeman says it is not about her, but about the learners, who they call knights, an amazing group of teachers, supportive parents and a wonderful community.
“I am only steering the learners and staff into the right direction.”
She is always extremely pleased to see every learner achieve their expectations, not only on the sport field, but in every event they choose to take part in, as well as academic subjects.
Discipline and the learner’s development of self-discipline are of vital importance to her.
“Helping them to achieve their goals is part of the fulfillment of being a teacher,” says Freeman.
