Suspects hit women with hammer in Selcourt Enclosure

A hammer was used during the assault of two women.

A resident was in the kitchen at 2.30am when she heard a loud bang at their front door in Gunberger Street, Selcourt Enclosure on Friday.

Three suspects allegedly gained entry to the house by breaking a glass door.

SAPS spokesperson Capt Johannes Ramphora says the woman screamed and tried to run to the bedroom, but was approached by the suspects.

“She was assaulted with a hammer and when her mother came to investigate she was assaulted too,” he says.

Both victims were pushed in to a bedroom and were joined by a third family member.

The suspects took two laptops, three cellphones and a TV set and fled the scene on foot.

Ramphora says one of the victims sustained an open wound to her head and bruises on her back, while her daughter sustained an open wound to her face.

SAPS are investigating a case of house robbery.
